This is IBM placement aptitude questions, answers and solutions on topic "Time and Work". Time and Work questions is very important topic for Aptitude test in IBM Placement Process. Practice these questions very well. 

Question: A can do in 6 day and B can do in 8 and C can do in 12 days but b left after working for 6 days for how many no of day
A and C shluld work ?
Answer: 1 day
Solution: B for one day work is 1/8
he worked for 6 days, so 6*1/8=3/4 work will be completed.
remaining work is 1-3/4=1/4
A and C can complete the work in 4 days
but there is only 1/4 work that is to be completed, so A and C can complete 1/4 work in 1 day..
answer: 1 day

Question: 15 men take 21 days of 8 hours each to do a piece of work. How many days of 6 hours each would 21 women take, if 3 women do as much work as 2 men ?

Answer: 30 days
Solution:
Time taken by 1 man by working 1 hr a day= 21*8*15 days
Time taken by 2 men by working 1 hr a day= 21*8*15/2=21*4*15
So time taken by 3 women by working 1 hr a day= 21*4*15
So Time taken by 1 woman by working 1 hr a day=21*4*15*3
So Time taken by 21 women by working 6 hr a day=21*4*15*3/6*21=30 days

Question: Mr. X has to build a wall 1000 metres long in 50 days. He employs 56 men but at the end of 27 days finds that only 448 metres are built. How many more men must be employed so that the work may be finished in time?

Answer: 25

Solution: (men*days*hours)/workdone =(men*days*hours)/workdone
(56*27)/448=(x*23)/552
x=81
81-56=25

Question: A company organzied a help desk.there have been done 24 hrs work on software,17 hrs on help user nd 40% on other services.find the total no. of hrs have been worked on that day?

Answer: 68.3

Solution: let total no of hrs = x
they have done 24+17=41
40% of x is 40/100=2/5 
x=41+2x/5
x=68.3

Question: FOR A POETRY CONCERT OF 30 MINS A POET TAKES 1 HOUR FOR WRITING THE POEM AND 6 HOURS TO REHEARSAL.HOW MUCH TIME WILL TAKE THE POET FOR 90 HOUR CONCERT?

Answer: 1350

Solution: For 30 min concert total invested time
= 30 min + 1 hour + 6h= 7hour and 30 min
i.e for 1 hour of concert
he will take 2*( 7hour and 30 min)= 15 hour
i.e for 90 hour of concert he will take
= 15*90=1350hours. ans=1350hours

Question: A man can do a piece of work in 5 days, but with the help pf his son, he can do it in 3 days. In what time can the son do it alone?

Answer: 7 ½ days

Solution: Man's 1 day's work is 1/5
Man's + his son's 1day's work is 1/3
so his son's 1 day's work is 1/3-1/5=2/15
so he will take 7*1/2 days

Question: A, B and C are employed to do a piece of work for Rs.529. A and B together are supposed to do 19/23 of the work and Band C together 8/23 of the work. What amount should A be paid?

Answer: 345

Solution:

b and c=8/23(529)=184
a=a+b+c-(b+c)=529-184=345

Question: A and B together can do a piece of work in 30 days.A having worked for 16 days, B finishes the remaining work in 44 days. In how many days shall B finish the whole work alone?

Answer: 60 days

Solution:


Let, A's 1 day's work be x and that of B's be y.
Given that, A and B together can finish the work in 30 days.
According to the question, A's and B's 1 day's work=1/30.
So, x+y=1/30........ (1)
Again,
16x+44y=1............(2) [ As A's 16 day's work=16x;B's 44 day's work=44y]
Solving equation (1) and (2) we get,
y=1/60 which is B's 1 day's work.
Therefore, B alone can do it in 60 days.
Hence, Answer is (C.) 60 days.
